BALTIC CITY POPCORN.

Sometimes you just want a little piece of home. Brothers Darien and Shawn Kaine miss "Baltic City Seasoning" when they travel to the Akashic Academy. Everyone back on Terra-1 has their own version of "Baltic City Popcorn." Our universe doesn't have "Baltic City Seasoning, " but we can substitute using a Maryland favorite, Old Bay. To learn more about the Kaine family and their adventures, listen to our podcast:

Battalion-13: The Podcast

Makes about 40 cups of popcorn 🍿

  • Supplies

    • A heavy bottomed pot with lid (a see through lid is optimal)

    • Large spoon for stirring

    • Mug or Pyrex Liquid Measuring Cup for microwave

    • Small spoon

    • Large bowl for popcorn

  • Ingredients

    • 3/4 Cup Canola or vegetable oil

    • Salt to taste

    • 6 tbsp Butter or cannabutter

    • Old Bay to taste

    • 1/2 cup Nutritional Flake yeast

    • 1 1/2 Cup Popcorn

  • Steps

    • Pour oil into the pan until it coats the bottom of the pan, no more than 1/8 inch in depth.

    • Line the pot with popcorn, being careful to not add more than 1/4 inch in depth.

    • Place lid on the pot.

    • Turn your burner onto medium high heat.

    • Listen for popping sounds.

      • While you are waiting for the popcorn to pop, you can melt 1/4-1/2 a stick of butter in the microwave.

      • Cover with microwave splatter lid if you have one.

      • Melt for 20 seconds at a time until melted but not boiling.

      • Set it aside.

    • When the popping accelerates, be careful to watch in case your popcorn exceeds the capacity of the pot.

      • If this occurs, pour out some of the popcorn into the bowl while keeping the lid in one hand and close to the pot. You only want to remove a third of the popped popcorn to make room.

      • Then replace the lid and return the pot to the stove in case there are any un-popped kernels

    • When the popping slows to one pop per second, remove from heat and pour the popcorn into the bowl.

    • Then use the small spoon to drizzle melted butter over popcorn. Sprinkle with salt, old bay and nutritional flake yeast. Then stir with your large spoon.

    • Repeat this process until all of your popcorn is coated to your desired taste.
